First forced entry for Annual Gas Safety Check
Swan has a responsibility to ensure that all homes that we own and managed are safe.This includes carrying out annual gas safety checks to tenants homes.
For the first time recently we had to force entry into a resident’s home in order to carry out a Gas safety check.
We were awarded an injunction order against the resident who lives in Basildon, however, we still could not get access to the property.
After taking into account the resident’s own health and safety, and neighbours living nearby, we took the decision to force entry to the property and gave the resident 48 hours written notice.
Two members of the Housing Team went to the property with a Locksmith and Gas Engineer. The Locksmith drilled the lock to gain entry and the Gas Engineer capped the gas meter. The property was then made secure.
