"I can't thank Swan enough....."
A Basildon mother of two has spoken out about her joy at moving in to a brand new home specially designed and adapted to suit her nine-year-old disabled son.
Basildon based Swan Housing Group worked in partnership with Basildon District Council to provide five specialist wheelchair bungalows on the Five Links Estate to meet the needs of a number of families in the area and as part of the regeneration programme.
Beverly Clarke and her two sons Oliver, 9 and Jacob, 6, moved into their three-bedroom Swan home last year. Beverly said: “I couldn’t be happier with the service we have got from Swan Housing. We moved from a two-bedroom house to this lovely bungalow and had a say in absolutely everything. I had an input in the layout of the house and was asked exactly what my requirements were for Oliver.”
The bungalow, in Gower Chase, has been adapted with special hoists in Oliver’s bedroom and bathroom, the kitchen has been fitted so the height of the sideboards can be adjusted and all entrances and doors are wheelchair accessible.
Beverly continued: “I had to carry Oliver around before, but with the hoists it is so much easier. He is now able to get around the whole of our home. I was consulted from the start and have really had my home custom made to suit our needs. I now have a carport too, which makes it much easier when transporting Oliver and the wheelchair.
“Both Oliver and my other son Jacob are very happy and have settled in really well. I can’t thank Swan enough for all of their help. They are always there when you need them and help in any way they can.”
Swan is continuing the success of the redevelopment of the estate in partnership with Lovell. Work along the Hatterill and Somercotes Road will be complete by the autumn. This phase of the development has provided 172 homes for residents of Basildon.
