Swan Housing Association announces that it will work with partners to deliver the long awaited £1 billion regeneration of Purfleet, Thurrock
Swan Housing Association is delighted to confirm that it today became a joint venture partner in Purfleet Centre Regeneration Ltd (PCRL) with Urban Catalyst as Development Managers for a major £1bn housing led regeneration of Purfleet town centre which will include a film and production studios delivered by Quartermaster Holdings.
The Thames-side scheme in Thurrock will see a new centre for Purfleet built alongside a world-leading creative hub, an improved train station and bridge crossing, a new primary school, other vital health and education infrastructure and up to 2,800 new homes.
Swan already has a secured development pipeline of over 3,500 homes and are an established local housing provider, owning and managing over 11,000 homes across Essex and East London. The majority of the homes in the development pipeline are being built by our in-house developer, NU living, with many using high quality modular technology. With an ambitious new corporate strategy which aims to deliver more homes to meet housing need, Swan are delighted to be working with Urban Catalyst and Thurrock Council to bring about this long-awaited regeneration.
John Synnuck, Chief Executive of Swan commented:
"At Swan we are committed to
delivering our social purpose - providing homes and services to
those who need them - and our ambition is to deliver a further
10,000 homes by 2026 to really make an impact on meeting housing
need. As a result, the opportunity presented by this project
which will deliver up to 2,800 homes as well as transforming a key
part of the Thames Estuary region, is one we are keen to take
We are already delivering a range of town centre regeneration projects, including schemes in Laindon and Barking, transforming these areas for the local communities and we are very much looking forward to working with our joint venture partners and Thurrock Council to bring about this long awaited regeneration, which it is widely recognised local people want to see."
Geoff Pearce, Swan's Executive Director for Regeneration and Development commented:
"We are delighted that PCRL and Urban Catalyst recognise that Swan's expertise in construction, project management and delivering mixed use regeneration will help PCRL bring about the transformation of Purfleet Town Centre. Urban Catalyst themselves also have an excellent development record and we are confident that, together, we can deliver new homes, public realm and a commercial and retail offer which will complement the wider ambitions for Purfleet which also also include new schools and a major film and TV studios complex to be delivered by Quartermaster".
