Delivering effective services, enterprising solutions and exemplary homes and communities.
Swan Housing Association was last night recognised for their contribution to the continued economic growth of Basildon, being Highly Commended in the 'Promoting Economic Growth' category at the Planning Awards in London.
Swan's entry showcased their close working partnership with Basildon Borough Council which has enabled them to make a significant contribution to the economic growth and social wellbeing of Basildon through a number of redevelopment, housing and community engagement projects.
Swan has been making an impact in Basildon for over 20 years, starting with around 2,000 homes in the Borough through a stock transfer. Today, Swan is spending over £150m regenerating the Craylands Estate and has recently taken on the regeneration of the Laindon Shopping Centre, as it blights an area surrounded by 1,500 homes their residents live in.
Uniquely, Swan has opened their new 74,000sqft factory in Basildon, which will create up to 40 jobs and build 570 high-quality, precision engineered, modular homes for the Craylands Estate. At full capacity, the factory will produce 300 homes a year, contributing to the growing local economy.
John Synnuck, Chief Executive of Swan Group said:
Swan prides itself on its ability to not only deliver exemplary homes and communities, but to make a direct and significant impact on the communities we are working in. Our support for Basildon is a great example of this. Through our redevelopment activity and dedicated housing and community development team, we have brought new homes, new community facilities, helped residents get new skills to improve their position, and with our new factory, are bringing jobs and manufacturing expertise to the area. We are delighted to be recognised for this contribution and are grateful to Basildon Borough Council for working with us over the last 20 years, to make a real difference to the Borough.
Also in attendance last night was Bala Mahendran, Chief Executive of Basildon Borough Council, who Swan had invited to attend the awards on behalf of the Borough.
Basildon Council has a long term commitment to facilitating economic growth in the Borough and we have built a successful and longstanding relationship with Swan that is benefitting our residents and businesses. Being highly commended for promoting economic growth is recognition of what can be achieved when a council and a forward thinking housing partner work together, to deliver ambitious and innovative housing and development projects where the needs of the community are at the heart.
Swan Group and Basildon Borough Council were delighted to be Highly Commended in this category and would like to congratulate the winner of the award, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council, who's Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRRS) project, has provided a new highway to Doncaster Sheffield Airport with links into Rossington and the iPort development.
