Swan Care and Repair

Our Care and Repair Team can offer a variety of services to help people to live independently and stay in their home.  They can assist with undertaking adaptations and repairs.

Who's eligible?

Services are available to older and disabled people living in Chelmsford, Braintree, Maldon, Colchester and Tendring. 

Handyperson Service

The handyperson service can help people to remain independent by doing minor adaptations and repairs.  We can perform a variety of jobs, including:

  • Changing light bulbs.
  • Fitting key safes.
  • Fitting grab rails.
  • Putting up curtain tracks or shelves.
  • Minor plumbing jobs.
  • Safety and security measures.

Although not able to do electrical work, decorations or external jobs above ground floor height, we can provide details of approved contractors who may be able to help.

Falls Prevention Service - Colchester and Tendring

If you are at risk of falling, or have had a fall, we can assist with making your home safe by putting up grab rails, building ramps, etc.  A referral will need to be made by the Falls Prevention Team. The cost of the labour is covered within the scheme, but you will need to pay for any materials used.

Energy Efficiency and Installations Services

Swan Care & Repair work in partnership with the Energy Savings Trust and other providers to provide a free Home Energy Assessment. This is subject to available funding, is not means tested and is available to anyone. This service is currently available free. We may at times also have funding to assist with improvements to the thermal comfort of your home and this may have an eligibility criteria.

Benefits Advice

We can offer advice and support with benefits and can provide signposting to the most appropriate agency for more detailed information and assistance with applications.

Caseworker Support, Advice and Guidance

This service is available to provide free information on a range of housing related support services. This could include help with moving home, finding more suitable accommodation, help with repairs and improvements in the home and assisting with charitable funding applications for essential repairs.
