Our mission is to deliver effective services, enterprising solutions and exemplary homes and communities.
Promoting equality and community cohesion whilst recognising the different needs and experiences of our customers is crucial to achieving this aim.
We welcome the requirements placed upon us to comply with various legal and regulatory requirements that relate to equality and diversity and aim to do more.
Through our activities as an employer, a landlord, a service provider, a partner and in procurement we seek to eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation and advance equality of opportunity, foster good relations, tackle prejudice and promote understanding.
We aim to ensure fair treatment for everyone by recognising people's different needs, situations and goals and removing the barriers that limit what people can do and be.
Through our day to day work, resident and service user involvement opportunities and the work of our Diversity Action Forums, we aim to tackle the equality issues that matter most to our residents, customers and employees.
We value diversity and we are committed to promoting equality, community cohesion and social, digital and financial inclusion. We will work with our residents, customers and partners with the aim of improving equality and inclusion outcomes for everyone regardless of:
- Gender reassignment
- Marriage and civil partnership
- Pregnancy and maternity
- Race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origins
- Religion or belief
- Sexual orientation.

Our Equality Scheme sets out our commitment and approach to promoting equality, community cohesion and social, digital and financial inclusion. It highlights some of our achievements, sets out our key equality and inclusion objectives and includes a Strategic Action Plan that shows how we will achieve these objectives.
The Scheme will guide our strategic approach over the three year period 2015 to 2018 to ensure that we continue to promote equality and diversity through everything we do. We will publish an annual equality report to show how we are doing this.
We are very proud that, in 2016, Housing Diversity Network (HDN) awarded us their Diversity Network Accreditation for excellence in equality and diversity with five distinctions for good practice.
Following the publication of our new Swan Corporate Strategy 2017-22, we need to write a new Equality Scheme and review and update our Equality & Diversity Policy. We want to develop an approach that is based on real priorities so we need your help.
