Enhanced door entry security measures in place at Exmouth Estate

Exmouth Estate Residents Board Chair, George Ferris, uses a security fob to demonstrate how the new communal doors work.Measures to improve the security of communal door entrances have gone live this week at the Exmouth Estate, Stepney.

The improvements, part of the ongoing £8 Million refurbishment works taking place at the estate, are designed to make communal door entrances secure and accessible to Exmouth residents only.

The new system is up and running at blocks in the Jamaica Street, Musbury Street, Cornwood Drive, and Brayford Square areas of Exmouth. Some work is still to be undertaken, however, Swan is confident that the new communal door entry  measures will be complete by mid-July to blocks where security was compromised through vandalism.

Akin Durowoju, Assistant Director of Development said: ‘I am pleased that the new measures are up and running and would like to reiterate that the full programme of security enhancements to communal doors continues to be a top priority for Swan.’

George Ferris, Chair of the Exmouth Estate Residents Board, said: ‘It’s good to see the new security measures going live. Local residents have been keen to get this in place, hopefully these works will reassure people that the estate refurbishment programme is making real progress.’

In a spate of incidents during 2008 communal doors were targeted by criminals who stripped copper wire from the mechanisms that controlled door security. The new system should be safer and less easily targeted by criminals or vandals.
