Our Swan Care and Repair service offers a variety of services to enable you to live independently and stay in your home.
At Swan Care and Repair, we can assist you with undertaking adaptations and repairs to your home. We work in partnership with North and Mid Essex District Councils and Essex County Council Social Care Occupational Therapy team and can manage the whole process for you.
We can provide the following support:
- We can assist you with applying for grants or loans to fund any work required.
- We will help you to find a contractor and will provide you with details of relevant approved contractors.
- We will supervise any works and keep you up to date with the progress.
- We will provide support and advice to you throughout the process.
Who’s eligible?
Our service is available to Older People and Disabled People living in Mid and North Essex. We can also provide assistance with private works to any individual.

Home from Hospital Service
What’s included?
Our Home from Hospital Service in conjunction with NHS North East Essex Primary Care Trust helps you to live independently after being discharged from hospital. We understand that you may need support after returning home and will tailor our service to meet your needs.
Our services include:
- Aids and Adaptations
- Smoke Alarms
- Furniture Re-arranged
- Home Safety Check
- Shopping
- Telephone Support
- Referral for Benefit Advice
- Referral for Gardening
- Signposting to Other Services
Our Aids and Adaptations service includes installing keysafes and grabrails to assist you in the home.
Who’s eligible?
Our service is available free of charge to Older People and Disabled People living in Colchester and Tendring.
Next steps
To be referred to the Home from Hospital Service, you will need to speak to a member of the Hospital Discharge Team. They will then arrange for one of our friendly and trained handypersons to provide you with the services you require to enable you to live independently.
Handyperson Service
What’s included?
Our handyperson service aims to help you to remain independent by doing minor adaptations and repairs within your home. We can perform a variety of jobs provided they do not take longer than 2 hours.
Our services include:
- Changing light bulbs
- Fitting key safes
- Fitting grab rails
- Putting up curtains tracks or shelves
- Minor plumbing jobs
- Safety and security measures
We do not do electrical work, decoration or external jobs above ground floor height.

Anyone can apply to use the service who lives in North or Mid Essex including:

Private Rented Tenants
Those on a low income
