Allocations and Lettings
Swan Housing Group provides good quality affordable housing throughout Essex and East London. We offer a wide range of housing to help meet individual people’s needs.
Our homes include flats, maisonettes, houses and bungalows. As well as rented housing for general needs we also provide sheltered, supported, key worker and marketed rented accommodation and shared ownership (part buy/ part rent).
Our general needs accommodation is allocated either to those nominated to us by a local authority or to our existing tenants and household members. Local authorities usually have 100% nomination rights to all of our newly built properties and up to 75% on properties being relet. Those nominated to us by a local authority are usually selected by the council's housing department from people waiting on the local Housing Register, either as a direct applicant or through a choice based letting scheme or because the local authority has a duty to them under homeless legalisation.
If you would like to be considered for a property with Swan you should register with your local Council’s Housing Department. This also applies to existing Swan tenants.
If you are already a Swan tenant and wish to move you may wish to consider a mutual exchange. Twice as many Swan tenants move each year by swapping their home than move through an internal transfer. Swan is a member of Homeswapper and existing Swan tenants can register free on www.homeswapper.co.uk.
There are a number of ways that existing Swan tenants may move. If you wish to speak to someone regarding how properties are allocated please telephone our Letting Team on 0300 303 2500 or email allocations@swan.org.uk . Once registered with us for a transfer you can visit www.homekey.co.uk to see properties that are available through our choice based lettings scheme.
