Swan Housing Group

I am a Tenant

If you already a Swan tenant there are a number of ways you can move, the most common ways are:

Through Swan’s transfer list

By registering on our transfer list you can be considered for any Swan accommodation in Essex or East London which you are eligible for.  Please contact us for a transfer form by emailing us at  allocations@swan.org.uk

Once you are registered on the transfer list you can visit www.homekey.co.uk to view and bid for Swan homes that are available to let and then bid for any that are the right size for your needs.

NOTE: Transfers will only be offered to tenants do not owe any money to Swan and who have kept their home in good condition.

ResidentsThrough the council’s housing register

You can register with the council for housing within their borough.  Although each council may have different procedures they all must assess and prioritise housing applications under similar criteria.  ‘Reasonable preference’ for re-housing must be given to people who are homeless, living in unsanitary conditions, are overcrowded or need to be moved on welfare grounds.

Most councils use one of the following methods to allocate homes:

Traditional or points based scheme

Applications are assessed on the information provided and points are  awarded depending on circumstance.  Properties are offered to those with the highest points.

Through a choice based lettings scheme

Once an application has been assessed it is placed in a band and given a reference number which allows the applicant to ‘bid’ for available properties which are advertised either weekly or fortnightly.

Through a mutual exchange

Swan are a member of Homeswapper therefore Swan tenants can register for free.  Homeswapper was launched in February 2007 and within the first year had 250 landlords signed up and 85,000 tenants.  You can register on www.homeswapper.co.uk

 Through Seaside and Country Homes

If you are currently living in a general needs property in East London and you (or your partner) are at least 60 years of age  you can apply to move to a bungalow or flat somewhere in the south of England or the Midlands.

For more information on this scheme please contact Seaside and Country Homes on 08450 21 20 20 or go to their website www.housingmoves.org
