Learning Disabilities Floating Support
Swan’s Learning Disability Floating Support Scheme
Swan, working in partnership with Essex Supporting People team, has developed a specialised floating support service for people with learning disabilities (or families with children who have a learning disability).
The aim of the service is to promote independence, sustain or access tenancies / other accommodation and encourage community access.

Accessing the Service
You can access the service in two ways – either by being referred by a social worker, teacher, doctor or carer or by contacting us yourself. If you are a friend or relative of someone you think would be interested in this service you can also contact us but we will only be able to deliver the service with their agreement.
What the service can do
As the individual decides what support they would like us to provide, everybody’s service is different, but the most common goals we support people to achieve are;
- Maximising benefits and accessing grants
- Independent living skills – cooking, shopping, cleaning, paying bills etc

- Preparing to move out of parents home into own accommodation
- Accessing college courses, career guidance and securing
- Socialising networks and making community links
- Managing debt and gaining budgeting skill
The aim of the service is not to do things for people but to work with people whilst they gain the skills and self confidence to be able to address any issues in the future themselves. We can support you to look at all your options and then make your own decision. It’s all about
taking control of your life and making your own decisions.
