Who we are
Swan provides the expertise, commercial understanding, flexibility and innovation that enables us to achieve our aim of providing high quality, affordable homes.
Swan Housing Group is based in Essex. It started life in 1991 as Basildon Community Housing Association (BCHA) which later became Swan (Essex), and was registered with the Housing Corporation in 1992.
The Group structure came into being in the late 1990s. Today Swan manages over 10,000 homes in Essex, Suffolk and East London.

The Group consists of a Registered Provider (RP), which is a charitable organisation, and three private companies:
The RP is:
Swan Housing Association
This is the ‘parent’ of the Group; it owns general needs properties in Essex and London and NHS Keyworker accommodation.
The Private Companies:
The two private companies carry out a range of supporting activities:
Swan Commercial Services
A wholly owned subsidiary of Swan Housing Association; it is a general commercial company which supports the work of the Swan Housing Group in achieving its objectives across a range of activities, including acquisition and development.
Swan New Homes
A wholly owned subsidiary company of Swan Housing Association, that provides new homes for sale.
Until 1st October 2010, the Group included two additional RPs (formerly Registered Social Landlords (RSLs), Swan (Essex) Housing Association and Swan (London) Housing Association. The operations of these two RPs transferred to Swan Housing Association on 1st October 2010 following resident consultation and approval from the Tenant Services Authority.
