Personal Case Study

Rachel Sassoon, Finance Manager and a CIMA Qualified Accountant, shared her experience of being part of the Finance Team at Swan:

Previously emRachel Sassoonployed by a private hospital, Rachel discovered that what she values most is making a difference to people's lives. When she met James King, our Financial Controller, she realised that housing associations were compatible with her desire to be involved with an organisation with a social purpose. She loves the idea that Swan provides not just a house but a home. Unconfident about the formality of interviews, she felt immediately at ease with James' conversational style and enthusiasm.

Rachel has found that her role has played to her strengths and has exposed her to the whole business. Her own development has been encouraged, as has that of every member of the team. Attaining professional qualifications is well supported. Rachel says her manager is the 'best manager I've worked for in my whole career'. She finds that he is always ready to help. She has also found that Swan has a culture that is open to hearing suggestions from everyone, as part of a drive to make improvements.

On returning from maternity leave, Rachel was supported in reaching a mutually beneficial way of working. She works a compressed week, which means that she can enjoy a healthier work/life balance. She also returned to new work, supporting our innovative factory, which is producing our custom-built modular housing and found this particularly exciting. She felt that her manager had once again played to her strengths in working with start-ups.

As part of Swan's corporate strategy, we are moving to agile working. Rachel feels that this will be a further benefit to her work/life balance; there will be less travel time, for example. People will have the tools to move around our sites efficiently and will be better positioned to offer real business support. Rachel felt that this fits in well with an organisation that is brave, innovative and embraces new ideas.

Development Case Study

At Swan, we are delighted that our plans to deliver the long awaited retail-led regeneration of the Laindon Shopping Centre will become a reality.

At the heart of our plans for the wholesale redevelopment of the shopping centre is a brand new high street with shops, landscaped space, a new Swan office, a modern health centre and homes.
