Delivering effective services, enterprising solutions and exemplary homes and communities.
At Swan we are committed to doing more to "Love the Planet" as part of our Corporate Strategy. Yesterday, Sam Wait, Director of Business Development and External Affairs spoke about how Swan are using cross laminated timber to build new modular homes for our regeneration scheme at Beechwood, at one of the first events in this week's London Climate Action week. The event, introduced by London Assembly Member Nicky Gavron, the London Sustainable Development Commissioner, was entitled 'Towards Carbon Free Construction: cultivating and manufacturing our homes'.
The panel also included leading experts on Timber and Timber construction, including Michael Ramage, Director of the Centre for Natural Material Innovation, Cambridge University, Andrew Waugh of Waugh Thistleton Architects - creator of world-leading engineered timber buildings, as well as leading sustainability expert Maria Smith, Director of Sustainability and Physics at Buro Happold.
The panel discussed the material properties of timber, explored Modern Methods of Construction with timber (including a presentation by Sam on the precision engineering NU living are using to manufacture Cross Laminated Timber homes in our first factory in Basildon, Essex) and discussed strategies that can help us build carbon free homes for our future.
London Climate Action Week focuses on harnessing the power of London for global action on climate change. There are interesting free events taking place all week. You can find out more here: London Climate Action Week.
