Swan's Resident Involvement and Community Development team held a graduation ceremony to celebrate more than 100 residents who have gained formal qualifications through an innovative Training and Employment programme.

Working together with partners including Clarion Futures and course provider, WEA, the training courses are designed to help people gain the skills needed for work and, many of the participants, have already secured work placements and jobs directly related to their courses.

The innovative Training and Employment scheme offers free, certificated training to Swan residents. Since September 2018 residents have completed courses in:

  • Introduction to Becoming a Teaching Assistant
  • CACHE/NCFE Level 2 Award in Support Work in Schools and Colleges
  • Introduction to Sign Language
  • Help your Child Manage Stress and Anxiety.
  • Introduction to Counselling
  • Strategies to Support Children with ADHD, Autism and Sensory Differences
  • Confidence Building and Self Esteem
  • Mental Health Course
  • Paediatric Emergency First Aid
  • Mobile Phone Repair

Laura, who has completed many of the courses, said: "these courses have changed my life!". Course tutors have commented on the difference they've observed in Laura, how her self-esteem and confidence has improved. She has used her new found skills and confidence to get a job in a school.

Caroline Richardson, Swan's Head of Resident Involvement and Community Development said "Congratulations to everyone who has completed a course. At Swan we are dedicated to improving our communities. This means we do more than simply provide homes; we actively support people to gain skills that help them to improve their employment prospects."
