Residents delighted to see Swan re-instate the Laindon War Memorial in temporary location

Residents celebrate memorial temp reinstatement

Last week, Swan were delighted to welcome local historians and residents to celebrate the re-instatement of the Laindon War Memorial to its temporary location, before taking centre stage of the reinvigorated public realm in 2020.

To allow construction of the new public realm in which both the War Memorial and Jubilee Fountain will be set, the War Memorial and Fountain were moved to temporary locations earlier last week. The Laindon War Memorial has now been re-installed by the temporary retail area close to the Laindon Health Centre, to ensure that it can continue to be honoured on Remembrance Day and throughout the year. The Fountain has been stored safely on site.

Fine art and antiquities removal experts Momart (www.momart.com), who have a Royal Warrant, carried out the removal and temporary re-instatement and will return in 2020 to install the much loved memorials to the centre of the new high street.

Laindon resident Christine Smith commented:'Swan always said they would look after our monuments to the war dead. They kept their word and now come November we can have our usual service to commemorate those that died for us. I now look forward to seeing our memorial put at the centre of the new high street once the development is complete'

Ken porter Local Historian added:'I am more than pleased to see the memorial go back, albeit in a temporary place. I'm delighted that Swan Housing have done what they told us they would do - at least two years ago. I am more than happy and this temporary location has enough room for our remembrance day this year- thank you Swan Housing!'

Geoff Pearce, Executive Director of Regeneration and Development at Swan said:'It is wonderful to see the memorial installed in its temporary location, and so carefully by Momart, ensuring it can be honoured at this year's Remembrance Sunday. We will continue to work on delivering Laindon's new high street, shops, homes and health centre, as well as making sure a suitable event is arranged to celebrate the monuments return to the centre of Laindon Place in 2020.'
