Following on from this morning's coverage regarding homes in Colchester, we would like to confirm that we have served notice to four tenants, living in private rental properties in Colchester. This is in line with the two-month notice period set out in their private rental tenancy agreements. These four properties are part of a housing stock review of 14 privately rented homes, these homes are not social housing homes. Swan is a not-for-profit organisation and all profits are returned to Swan for investment back into homes and services.
To ensure the effective management of its stock, Swan regularly assesses where best to place its resources to ensure it can better serve the communities it works in. These 14 private rented properties will be sold and the profits reinvested in new homes and services for our residents in line with Swan's social purpose.
Swan will not be terminating all 14 tenancies at once; this is being managed on a phased approach throughout the year, which will allow some tenants to remain in the properties longer, providing them time to make alternative arrangements over the coming months.

Why is Swan Housing selling the homes?
Swan Group continuously reviews its housing stock to assess where best to place our resources, to ensure we can serve the communities we work in. These private rented homes are being sold to allow us to reinvest the proceeds into homes and services for our residents. We are a not for profit organisation and do not pay shareholders. All proceeds from these sales will be invested in our social purpose - providing homes and services for our residents.

What support is being offered to residents to make sure they are not left homeless?
The tenants affected are not social housing tenants. Each tenant is on a fixed term arrangement known an 'Assured Shorthold Tenancy'. As with any Private Landlord arrangement, there is no requirement to find tenants alternative accommodation. However, due to Swan's extensive work in communities across Essex, our teams will work with each tenant to discuss their individual circumstances and requirements and will endeavour to support them through the process.
