Swan celebrates the launch of over 100 new social housing properties in Redbridge

Redbridge launch

Swan has just celebrated the launch of Ilford's newest housing development with 141 new homes in Redbridge.

The Paragon, a contemporary development provides one, two and three-bedroom flats offering genuinely affordable homes for rent in the borough, as well as homes for shared ownership.

Earlier this month Sandra Fawcett, Executive Director - Operations from Swan Housing Association along with Council Leader Cllr Jas Athwal and Cllr Farah Hussain, Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness, and came together to welcome the first cohort of residents moving into the striking development on Ilford Hill, which was part-funded by the Mayor of London.

More than half of the new residents came from temporary accommodation and have now been given the chance to lay roots and enjoy the stability of having a permanent home in the borough.

Sandra Fawcett, Executive Director - Operations  Swan Housing Association said:

Our mission is to make as many people as possible feel at home.  Together with the London Borough of Redbridge and the GLA who supported this scheme, we are delighted that the first residents are moving into The Paragon today.  Our onboarding team have been working closely with the residents and will be continuing to support them over the coming weeks as they settle into their new homes. Once they are settled our dedicated teams will be on hand to both manage The Paragon but also to support residents to get involved with Swan and to access our community development and resident engagement programmes."

Council Leader Cllr Jas Athwal said:

London is in the grip of a housing crisis, with just under 5,500 households waiting for a home in Redbridge. This new development shows once again that we are delivering on our pledge to deliver 1,000 affordable homes our residents desperately need.  We appreciate we can't tackle the shortage of homes alone and I want to thank both Swan Housing and the Mayor for their support and for helping us provide a fresh start for local families.  It's a start, but we need to press Government to give local authorities more ability to build the affordable homes our residents urgently need.  It's wonderful to meet the new residents and to welcome them to their new home."

Cabinet Member for Housing and Homelessness Cllr Farah Hussain said:

I'm really pleased to welcome the first wave of residents to The Paragon. This new development is another example of the great strides being made in tackling the borough's housing shortage. We know the difference that a permanent, good quality and genuinely affordable home can make. Our building programme will provide a fresh start for local families and helps usto tackle London's housing crisis locally."
