Why are electrical safety inspections important?

At Swan, residents' safety is our top priority. That's why we carry out electrical safety checks at least once every five years.

Thank you to our residents who assist us with this by giving us access to their homes when required.

Why is an electrical inspection important?

The inspection of the electrical wiring of your home ensures it is safe and suitable to use.

  • This is for the welfare of your family, friends, and any visitors to your home
  • It protects your neighbours
  • If the inspection reveals problems with the electrical installation in your home - they will be noted and appropriate repairs undertaken as soon as possible

Axis will write to you before your electrical inspection is due. This means one of their fully qualified electricians can complete the next inspection before your existing electrical safety certificate expires. 

It is important that you have your electrical inspection carried out as soon as possible. We will do our best to ensure the appointment is scheduled at a time that suits you, but we do reserve the right to take legal action if we cannot gain access.

This ensures that we always have an up to date electrical certificate and can comply with the Housing and Planning Act 2016.

Swan has recently been to court and successfully obtained an injunction against a resident who did not let us into their home to complete the electrical inspection. The judge awarded costs to Swan to claim the £760 court costs back from the resident. Please do not let this be you.

Axis engineers are fully trained and carry appropriate identification at all times.  Please check this yourself before allowing anyone into your home.
