Swan Signs Deal To Bring New Lidl Store To Laindon Place
Swan Housing Association is delighted to confirm that Lidl will be developing a new larger store as part of the Laindon Place regeneration scheme. Contracts on the site exchanged on 23 June bringing further multi-million-pound investment in their scheme which is transforming the town centre of Laindon for the community.
Once it's complete Lidl will move from their existing Lidl branch on Manor Road and Swan, who have acquired the Manor Road site as part of the deal will use it to bring more, much needed homes, to the area.
Located at the Danacre end of the Laindon Place regeneration, the multi-million pound investment will see Lidl build a larger, sustainable, store with almost 1500 square meters of sales area and in excess of 20% more customer parking spaces. The new convenient location will enable shoppers to access the stores on the new High Street that Swan are creating and facilities inside the store will include a fresh bakery, customer toilets and baby changing.
Swan are getting the site ready to hand over to Lidl's construction team later this year. It is expected that work on the new store will begin early next year and the new Lidl will open by Autumn 2021.
Swan's Laindon Place is a retail-led regeneration. It replaces the Laindon Shopping Centre which Swan purchased in 2015 and demolished in 2019 to make way for the new high street. When complete, Laindon Place will be a great place to work, live and shop; it will provide a new regional office for Swan, a variety of retail units, 224 new homes, a new and expanded health centre as well as improved landscaping around Laindon's historic war memorial.
Geoff Pearce, Deputy Chief Executive, Swan Housing Association said"We are delighted to conclude this deal with Lidl. Not only will it bring a much larger Lidl store to the area, it will also enable us to build more new homes on Lidl's existing site. Swan remains dedicated to ensuring Laindon Place provides a vibrant new high street for Laindon and transforms the centre of the town in the way the local community told us they wanted."
Lidl GB's Regional Head of Property, Andrew Hodgkinson, commented:"We are delighted to be re-locating our store in Laindon, which marks another milestone in our ambitious store expansion programme. We've seen incredible demand for Lidl stores across the country and look forward to improving our offering in Laindon."
