Blackwall Reach – Phase 2 Regeneration Update

Swan’s construction team are beginning to make rapid progress on Blackwall Reach Phase 2. This phase of the £600m regeneration scheme will deliver 268 new homes. 99 of these homes will be available for social rent and 15 for shared ownership. Many of the rented homes will be used to rehouse members of the community who have lived in Robin Hood Gardens and others who are currently living in temporary accommodation in Tower Hamlets. The regeneration scheme is 50% affordable by habitable room, using the sale of the private units to cross-subsidise the affordable homes.

Scaffolding currently surrounds Block D on Woolmore Street and it will soon be installed around Block C2 (by Woolmore Street and Cotton Street) and installation of the external walls is underway to these blocks.  On the other two blocks, work has already started, lifting the external façade panels into place. This is a crucial part of the construction as it makes the buildings fully water-tight and work can begin inside.

The Blackwall Reach regeneration has already delivered 340 new homes and several other benefits for the existing and growing community. A state-of-the-art community centre, a new housing office, a modern faith-building and an extended school were delivered as part of Phase 1A and the recently completed Phase 1B has transformed the area close to the Blackwall DLR Station with new shops around a new public space. When complete the local community will all benefit from a revitalised Millennium Green which will provide a green oasis in the heart of the urban community, as well as several pieces of public artwork designed in conjunction with local residents.
