Dove Cott House becomes monthly domestic abuse hub
Swan customers are set to benefit from bespoke support as Dove Cott House Foyer becomes a hub to support victims and survivors of domestic abuse.
The Basildon-based foyer, which provides supported accommodation for pregnant young women and single parents with young children, is set to become a support hub for people affected by domestic violence.
Alpha Vesta, A Community Interest Company (CIC) providing independent consultancy, training and support services in domestic abuse and related stalking and harassment, have been delivering workshops there for the last three months.
The company has now received funding from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and Essex Community Foundation, which will enable the delivery of the one-to-one education and mentoring “Breaking the Cycle” programme to our customers.
Founding Director and Lead Trainer, Lucy Whittaker said: “We are delighted to announce that we will be running a domestic abuse hub each month at Dove Cott House with workshops on healthy relationships, activities with the children like painting and biscuit decorating, as well as the opportunity to share experiences in a safe supportive environment.
“Those attending will also be able to access our bespoke one-to-one ‘Breaking the Cycle’ programme, where people affected by domestic abuse can be supported through building confidence, self-esteem and independence, create positive community connections, engage with higher education or increase employability skills.”
Head of Specialist Accommodation, Louise Joseph, added: “Alpha Vesta have been invaluable in supporting our residents over the last three months. I am looking forward to the partnership work between our organisations developing over the next 12 months, this will enable and empower our young people to continue their life journey.”
The funding also allows Alpha Vesta to set up hubs across Essex to deliver immediate domestic violence support, with Swan’s Dove Cott House being just one of the locations providing one-to-one support for our customers that require it.
