Fire Door Safety Week: Help us keep you safe
This week (31 October – 4 November) is Fire Door Safety Week, with this year’s campaign encouraging us to ‘Close the Door on Fire’.
Fire doors save lives, but how? Why are fire doors important?
Fire doors are designed to save yours, your family’s, and your neighbours’ lives. Fire doors are designed to withstand a fire and the spread of smoke for at least 30 minutes.
It is really important that you do not replace parts of the door, add new parts to it, or tamper with or damage the door in any other way, including disconnecting the self-closing device.
If your door is damaged or not closing correctly, you must contact us immediately to ensure fire protection is maintained. If you are a tenant, please contact Axis, our repairs partner, on 0800 783 2768 (freephone) or 0203 597 2067 to arrange a repair. Leaseholders and shared owners are responsible for the maintenance and repair of their flat entrance fire doors.
To ensure your safety and that of your neighbours, we will be inspecting all flat entrance doors (including leaseholders and shared owners’ doors) in buildings over four stories in height annually, and communal fire doors quarterly.
