Swan customers make new friends at Exmouth coffee morning

Swan's Customer Involvement and Community Development (CICD) team has been hosting coffee mornings for over 50s on the Exmouth Estate, in East London, working in partnership with Linkage Plus, Newark Youth and JSP Wellbeing.

Held at the Exmouth Community Hub, the sessions provide customers with the opportunity to catch up with neighbours, make new friends and enjoy a brew.

Besides being able to socialise, customers can also take part in some gentle exercise, such as chair yoga.

For Exmouth residents Susan and Erik, the coffee mornings have enabled them to interact with other members of their community, having only moved to Exmouth last October.

The pair were welcomed in while passing by the community hub eight weeks ago and have been coming along ever since.

Being new to the area, Erik said: “It’s a nice way to meet people so it seemed like a good idea. It’s nice to come and have somewhere to meet new people.”

As well as forming new friendships, Erik also told us he enjoys the coffee.

For Susan, it’s taking part in the exercise she likes the most, with the sessions the first time she had ever tried yoga.

She said: “We have a brilliant teacher and it’s so nice to have someone to follow. I would never have tried yoga before coming here.”

Another local who has been attending the coffee mornings is Maureen, who heard about them during a physio appointment.

Although she had tried yoga previously, she says she feels a lot more comfortable at these sessions.

Like Erik and Susan, Maureen also enjoys coming to the sessions to meet up with people, with everyone being so ‘friendly and welcoming’.

The Exmouth coffee mornings take place every Tuesday between 10.00am - 11.30am. Find out more about the Exmouth coffee mornings here.
